Vote for
democracy, not ‘lies and lunacy’
Someone should inform certain Republicans that our president is Joe Biden and not Donald Trump.
As I listen to the heated debates over who should be our next commander-in-chief, it frustrates me that many in Donald’s entourage refer to him as “President Trump.”
All those who do should not be trusted, as they are lost in the fog still believing that our last election was rigged.
Let’s all face the true reality and vote to keep democracy alive for everyone in our nation. We deserve and need a fresh start.
Cover-ups, lies and lunacy do not belong in the equation.

Concerns about
the General
Plan process
Why would the Planning Department hold a “final” public meeting about our General Plan 2045 at 2 p.m. on a work day? This is the document upon which the county administration and legislators will base their policy and regulations for years to come.
In no way can it be said that this represents a fair opportunity for public review of such an important document. Changing zoning and also property entitlements is a very big deal and deserves discussion and review.
If this General Plan still includes nuclear energy, then it needs to be addressed that this is illegal based on existing laws designating Hawaii “nuclear free.”
The county planning office is charging $33 for a member of the public to have a copy of this General Plan. Residents were informed that the final document would be available for review at the Hilo Public Library, and yet it was not.
There have been so many revisions, it’s hard to keep up with the document. The website has also been malfunctioning since the beginning of this process.
The only “public consent” for this plan is manufactured, and actual consultation about the General Plan has been a sham.
Mayor Mitch Roth and Zendo Kern: We are asking for answers how this plan reflects so little of the wishes of the people of Hawaii County.
