Robert Pamplona Barba, 82, of Pahala died Apr. 17 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired welder and union representative for the former Ka‘u Sugar Co., a former football coach at Ka‘u High School, also coached boxing, basketball, baseball and track, started the Ka‘u Greensands Boxing Club and the Pahala Chargers Pop Warner team, inductee of the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Visitation 11 a.m.-noon Saturday (Sept. 21) at Pahala Community Center. Memorial service at noon. Casual attire; no flowers. Judie Dingle Malagayo, 65, of Hilo died Aug. 18 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Maniboc, Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a housekeeper for the Waikoloa Beach Marriot Resort and Spa and former high school teacher in the Philippines. Eli Kaui Akana Nahulu, 87, of Keaau died May 24 in Hilo. Born in the Territory of Hawaii, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1955, was the neighbor island regional resource center director for Kamehameha Schools, founded the Koa Reforestation Project in 1977, ran Camp Palama Uka on Oahu, taught at Waimea and Waianae elementary schools and served on the Burial Council. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Bishop Memorial Chapel in Honolulu.
