Searchers find body of missing swimmer

Searchers have found the body of a man who was last seen in the Wailuku River at Boiling Pots above Hilo on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, Fire rescuers on Thursday found and extricated the body, believed to be that of a visitor, about 30-feet below the surface of one of the pools of Boiling Pots.

The victim was taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for pronouncement of death.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The identity of the victim isn’t being made public pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
