Police seek suspects in downtown Hilo assault

Police detectives are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying suspects of an assault which occurred on Friday, Sept. 6, in downtown Hilo.

At approximately 10:55 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to report of a male party who was assaulted fronting a bar located on the 100 block of Keawe Street.

Officers contacted a 64-year-old male visitor who reported observing two unknown males fighting, which he then attempted to break-up.

As the victim intervened, both males began assaulting him, with one of the males eventually placing the victim in a choke-hold.

The victim was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where it was determined that he sustained substantial bodily injuries from the assault.
