Thelma Tsugino Mitsuda, 86, of Hilo died Sept. 12 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired nursing supervisor and registered nurse at the former Hilo Hospital and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Masayuki Mitsuda of Hilo; children, Charlene Mitsuda of Hilo, Gerald (Janice) Mitsuda of Auburn, Calif., Lori (Dalton) Kaneko and Glenn Mitsuda of Hilo; brother, George (Nancy) Takahashi of San Leandro, Calif.; sister-in-law, Carol Takahashi of Fresno, Calif.; brother-in-law, Kenneth Yoneda of California; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: nieces and nephews. Harry Satoru Tamura, 87 of Naalehu died Aug. 13. He was a retired mac nut supervisor, worked for the former C. Brewer and Co. businesses Ka‘u Sugar and Ka‘u Agribusiness in Pahala, was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed being surrounded by friends and drinking his favorite beverage, Natural Light Beer. Celebration of life luncheon, noon Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Naalehu Clubhouse. Survived by daughters, Anel Uno of Honolulu and Shylah (Kevin) Tamura of Ainaloa; son, Wayne (Dina) Tamura of Naalehu; brother, Thomas (Winnie) Tamura; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Betty Yuriko Tirado, 93, of Kailua-Kona died July 31 at her foster home of Lily Jacinto. Born in Honolulu, she was manager of the former Kona Surf Reort Shop and worked at both retail shops and coffee farms and was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Private service 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Inurnment to follow. Survived by daughters, Corinne (Brian) Ono of Waipahu, Oahu, and Mitzi (Hal Takahashi) Kadohiro of Kailua-Kona; sons, Ronald Yoshimoto of Pearl City, Oahu, and Randall Yoshimoto of Waipio, Oahu; sister, Mavis Shiohira of Honolulu; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Diana Apilando Viernes, 55, of Hilo died Aug. 21 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hawaii, she was a public schools classroom cleaner.
