The definition of recovery: A return to normal state of health, mind and strength.
It was a great day on Tuesday, Sept. 24, with the blessing of the recovery of one road (Highway 137) from “Four Corners” to Issac Hale Beach Park.
These six miles will take two years. In the short term, it will help no one.
Pohoiki Road was from the start was going to be first. Why? Because 12 families-plus have been surviving on lower Pohoiki, some with children and many seniors. This would be 2 1/5 miles to bring our normal life back.
We’ve been patient; it’s been six years. But now, one of our own landowners is being selfish. So, the start of this Pohoiki project is once again delayed.
Your leases have earned your family much income and security. Now it would be a great time to give back to your community. Stop the lawsuits and help bring back our recovery and health and well-being.

Seeking a response
from Sen. Inouye
As I’ve written before to this newspaper about the traffic and safety problem at Ernest B. DeSilva Elementary School, I tried contacting Sen. Lorraine Rodero Inouye about this problem, as she has stated that she helped secure millions of dollars for extra buildings at the school because of overcrowding.
I wanted to speak to her about the real reason for the overcrowding and the traffic hazards that occur daily.
The real reason is because they have around 75% of the students attending there with a district exemption! They are not supposed to be there, but at the school where they live.
Adding more classrooms will only make things worse.
I don’t know if she ever drove up Ainako Avenue 20 to 25 minutes before school ends to see the dozens of cars lined up in the driving lanes, not pulled off to the side. You can’t go around, as there are still cars coming down, and it would be dangerous.
Sadly, as I’ve emailed her, and I have not gotten a response from the senator. That is not the first time I’ve tried contacting her, either.
It seems like lifelong politicians get too comfortable and seem to not need to correspond and listen to their constituents’ concerns, because they have their core group that will vote for them every election. That is why it is good that the mayor and council seats have term limits.
So, Sen. Inouye, this is my letter to you.
