HILO — Waiakea girls volleyball opened its two-match homestand with its second consecutive straight-sets victory on Thursday in Hilo. The Warriors beat the visiting Kea‘au Cougars by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-11. It was the seventh straight-sets win of the season for Waiakea.

The Warriors notched win No. 10 of 2024 (10-3), and stayed in third in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) standings behind Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i and Konawaena. With just a handful of matches remaining in the regular-season slate, Waiakea will next be tested against Ka Umeke on Tuesday night in Hilo.

Kea‘au (4-9) will also next play Tuesday, scheduled to face Christian Liberty Academy in Kea‘au Village.

HPA 3, Honoka‘a 0

Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy girls volleyball stayed near the summit of the BIIF Division II standings after a straight-sets win over Honoka‘a on Thursday inside Kamuela’s Castle Gymnasium.

Ka Makani, who sits a half-game behind Parker for first overall in DII, won its three sets by scores of 25-2, 25-12 and 25-19. HPA’s first-set domination mirrored its rout against Kealakehe on Aug. 24, in which the team won 25-2 in the second set.

Winners of six straight, Ka Makani moved to 11-1 overall. Its next test will be against Kohala on Monday night at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

The Dragons (5-7) sit in the middle of the BIIF DII standings. They’ll next play Tuesday night against Kanu in Honoka‘a town.

The home team won by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15.

With the win, the Bulls (12-1) stayed a hair ahead of HPA for first overall in their division’s standings. They’ll next play DI powerhouse Konawaena today in Waimea.

Ehunui (2-11) is near the bottom of BIIF DII’s standings, and will look to get back on track in its next match against Kanu this morning in Waimea.
