WAIMEA — The Kahilu Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. will present Po &the 4Fathers, a modern maoli music band offering a unique and powerful musical experience.

Deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture, their sound seamlessly blends Polynesian rhythms and indigenous tones with influential genres such as reggae, soul, blues, funk, and hip-hop, according to a press release. Their songs embody the joy, hardship, pain and triumph shared across generations, all while carrying a modern Kanaka Maoli perspective that resonates meaningfully with today’s audience.

The band’s origins can be traced back to their connection with the Mana Maoli Collective and the Pasifika Vibes Festival, where a deep musical bond was formed over a kanoa of ‘awa.

From this convergence of indigenous Hawaiian music, Po &the 4Fathers emerged, crafting a sound that represents the forward movement of maoli music — honoring the past while looking toward the future.

The band is comprised of a talented ensemble of multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, including Kawai Hoe (ukulele, guitar, vocals), Roman Corpuz (lead guitar, vocals), Kalei Young (bass, drums, vocals), Kiliona Young (guitar, vocals), August Lopaka Colon (percussion), Kalei Yamanoha (steel guitar, accordion, trombone), Jordan Lopez (keyboard, trumpet) and Adam Zopel (bass).

Together, they deliver vibrant, dynamic performances that are sure to resonate with all who attend, according to the press release.

Po &the 4Fathers offer music that speaks to a deep sense of place and identity, delivering thoughtful and impactful lyrical messages. Their compositions combine rich harmonies, diverse instrumentation, and compelling storytelling, offering audiences a chance to experience a new style of Hawaiian music that remains grounded in tradition yet embraces contemporary influences.
