The man whose remains were discovered on Friday, Oct. 18, in a residence on Tiki Lane in Hawaii Ocean View Estates has been identified as 56-year-old Wayne Richard Moriarty of Ocean View.
Moriarty also was commonly known as Arthur Hackett, police said.
An autopsy was performed on today, and the forensic pathologist determined that Moriarty’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and ruled the death as a homicide.

The body of a man with “fatal injuries” was found Friday afternoon within a residence in the 92-9000 block of Tiki Lane in the Hawaii Ocean View Estates subdivision, according to police.
Around 1:10 p.m., Ka‘u patrol officers responded to the residence on Tiki Lane regarding a report of a deceased man.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of a Caucasian man believed to be in his 50s who had sustained a fatal injury. A police press release did not provide specifics about the injury.
Police detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. After conducting their preliminary investigation, it was believed that the injuries were suspicious in nature and not accidental.
Police have initiated a second-degree murder investigation in this case.
Efforts are being made to identify the victim, who has not yet been positively identified.
