Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) girls volleyball wrapped up its week at states with consolation matches on Saturday on O‘ahu.
HPA 2, Kapaa 0
To conclude its epic 2024 season, second-seeded Hawaii Preparatory Academy swept No. 4 Kapaa in a best-of-three third-place match in the Division II tournament on Saturday at BYU-Hawai‘i. Ka Makani won by scores of 25-21 and 25-18.
Senior Mya Pinkert ended her high school volleyball career on a high note, posting 11 kills — the only player to reach double figures in kills during the match. She also tallied a team-high eight digs. Senior teammate Maile Imonen finished with a match-high 16 assists to close her HPA volleyball campaign.
The Warriors’ Carlyn Kamoku notched a team-high seven kills, while teammate Kailee-Ann Baltazar had a match-high 14 digs. HPA ends 2024 at 19-2 overall and a BIIF Division II Championship. Kapaa ended at 12-3.
“We are so proud of our girls and what they accomplished this season,” Ka Makani coach Daena Craven told West Hawaii Today. “They improved immensely over the course of the season and fought to the very end. We are going to miss our seniors (Pinkert, Imonen, Margot Lewis and Elaina Head) and wish them the best next year.”
Baldwin 2, KSH 1
In a best-of-three fifth-place match for HHSAA Division I, Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i fell 2-1 to Baldwin inside Honolulu’s Cannon Activities Center.
The Warriors fell 19-25, 25-23 and 9-15.
Finishing sixth overall in the state, KSH ends 2024 19-2.
The Bears had a well-balanced attack offensively, as Imani Hargis, Ariana Naipo and Amanda Naipo notched five kills apiece. Lilinoe Paschoal led the floor in assists with 21.
Natronal Anana led the winning team with 11 digs.
The Warriors were led by Mia Polloi in the kill department, who had 19. Teammate Maile Kuamo‘o posted 19 assists, while Kealohi Dudoit had a match-high 13 digs.
