Shirlen Haanio, 92, of Kealakekua died Oct. 5 at home. Born in Lahaina, Maui, she was a coffee farmer and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation, Mass and burial were held Thursday. No koden. Survived by sons, Samuel (Janice) Haanio Jr., of Lakewood, Wash.; Stephen (Gwenn) Haanio of Chicago and Stanley (Cookie) Haanio of Honalo; daughter, Sandra (Daniel Sr.) Manuel of Keauhou; sisters, Velma Chang of Hawaii Kai, Oahu, Dolores Galusha of Florida and Helen Dela Cruz of Shilton, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Eugene “Patao” Orevillo, 81, of Keaau died Sept. 28 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. He was born on August 15, 1943 in Olaa, Hawaii. He was a supervisor, machinist and welder for Mauna Loa Mac Nut Company, a former entertainer for Sons of Puna and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation again 8:30-9:30 Saturday (Nov. 16) at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Military honors and cremation to follow. Casual attire. Survived by lifetime companion, Verda V. Arriaga of Hilo; children, Donna Mae Rosas of Hilo, Brenda (Kufa) Filo of Hilo, Jillian Orevillo of Hilo and Eugene (Paige) Orevillo Jr. of Hawaiian Paradise Park; hanai son, Ashton (Samantha) Rivera of Hilo; brothers, Roger (Denise) Orevillo of California, Ernest Orevillo of Pahoa and Arsenio (Sue) Acob Jr. of California; sisters, Carmen Fontes and Caroline (David) Rogue of Hilo, Norma Acob of Oahu. Clarence Stanley Rapoza, 79, of Holualoa died July 29 at home. Born in North Kona, he was cattle rancher, 2019 inductee into the Paniolo Hall of Fame, avid bowler and supported many Kona athletic teams, the Historical Society, Paniolo Preservation Society, and other community organizations. Celebration of life 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Imen Center in Holualoa. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Catherine Rapoza; children, Cherell Rizzo, David (Lisa) Rapoza, Ryan (Misaki) Rapoza, Chrisy (John) Alameda and Clinton Calendar; sisters, Barbara Boencamp and Julia Viloria; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
