Witnesses sought for hit-and-run incident in HVNP

A bicyclist was severely injured after being struck by a vehicle this morning in a hit-and-run incident within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

National Park Service law enforcement officers have launched an investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. today within the park’s boundaries at the intersection of Highway 11 and the road to Namakanipaio Campground.

The vehicle was described by witnesses as a gold-colored sedan.

The bicyclist is a 70-year-old male from Volcano.
