KEA‘AU — Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) powerhouse Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i boys soccer continued its strong start to the new season after routing Waiakea 5-1 on Tuesday in Kea‘au.
KSH star Micah Chung set the tone for the match early, scoring goals in the first, 18th and 24th minute to complete his hat trick. Teammates Kanoa Honda (58’) and Tantoa Muskat (62’) added goals in the second half.
Austin Mohica scored the visiting Warriors’ only goal in the 40th minute.
KSH (2-0-0) will next take the pitch against Hawaii Preparatory Academy at 2 p.m. Saturday at home. Waiakea (1-1-0) will host Hilo at 2 p.m. Friday at Wong Stadium.
Waiakea girls soccer earned its second win of 2024-25 after blanking rival KSH 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon following the boys game.
Kalia Franklin scored for the winning Warriors in the 11th minute, followed by teammate Charlie Silva in the 59th.
Waiakea (2-0-0) will take the field again at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon against local rival Hilo at home. KSH (0-1-1) will host HPA at 4 p.m. Saturday in Kea‘au.
MLCA 4, Parker 1
Makua Lani Christian Academy boys soccer earned its first win after handling Parker 4-1 on Tuesday at Old Kona Airport.
Now at 1-1-0, the Lions will look to build on this win for their upcoming match against Konawaena, which starts at 6 p.m. tonight at Julian R. Yates Field. The Bulls (0-2-0) will enjoy a brief break before returning to the pitch on Dec. 13 against HPA in Waimea.
Basketball:
Kona 58, HPA 47
Konawaena boys basketball earned win No. 1 of the new season over HPA on Tuesday, clinching the contest in its home opener inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium.
In the 58-47 win, Wildcat Rilesy Asakura dropped a game-high 20 points. His teammate, Alex Martinez, scored eight.
On Ka Makani’s side, Vander Eberhard added a team-high 19 points, followed by teammate Kingdon Simmons with 10.
Kona (1-1) additionally faced the Parker Bulls on Wednesday evening inside Waimea District Gymnasium. See Friday’s paper to read the result.
HPA (1-1) will next face BIIF competition against KSH on Jan. 4 in Kea‘au. However, Ka Makani will play in Kealakehe’s tournament this weekend, Seabury Hall’s tournament on Dec. 12 and Punahou tournament on Dec. 26.

Pahoa 50, Kea‘au 16
Pahoa girls basketball remained unbeaten after a 50-16 beatdown of Kea‘au on Tuesday on the road.
The Daggers were led by Sophie Moniz, who added a game-high 13 points — continuing her strong season of averaging 16.7 points per game, which leads 3-0 Pahoa. Her teammate, Ariana Kobayashi, also dropped 13. Azariyah Brown, Remedy Gonzalez, Jill Shipp and Kaiawe Sione pitched in six points each.
The Cougars did not have any scorers reach double figures, but Lenzy Adlawan led the group with eight points. Teammate Tiani Kaupu had four.
The Daggers will look to keep their hot streak going against the Dragons, slated to play at 6 p.m. Friday in Honoka‘a town.
Kea‘au (1-2) will host HPA at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Cougars’ gymnasium.
HPA 35, CLA 12
HPA girls basketball hosted Christian Liberty Academy on Tuesday night inside Castle Gymnasium, handling the Canefire 35-12. Ka Makani outscored the visitors in every quarter played.
HPA (1-3 overall, 1-2 BIIF) was led by Rosey Wawner, who chipped in nine points. CLA’s (0-3) Mikaili Banetto-Payomo scored a team-high eight points.
Ka Makani will next take the court against Kea‘au on Saturday on the road.
Waiakea 53, Kealakehe 6
Waiakea girls basketball had a successful business trip to Kona town on Tuesday evening at Kealakehe High School, routing the hosting Waveriders 53-6.
The paper could not obtain the top scorers by deadline.
The Warriors (2-3 overall, 1-2 BIIF) will next take the court against Hilo on Saturday night at waiakea High School. Junior varsity will tip off first at 5 p.m.
Kealakehe (0-3) will drive north to Kapa‘au to take on Kohala at 6 p.m. Friday inside King Kamehameha Park Gymnasium.
