Clayton William Ioane Kua, 71, of Hilo died Nov. 10 at Pali Momi Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Hilo, he was a speech and communications instructor at Hawaii Community College, former director of University of Hawaii at Hilo Alumni Relations, former theology and music teacher at St. Joseph High School, former pastoral associate with Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, a founding of the musical group, Da Blahlas of Keaukaha, co-writer of the song “Hawai‘i 78,” worship leader at Hilo Missionary Church, former worship leader at Heritage Christian Fellowship and New Hope-Hilo, graduate of Hilo High School Class of 1971, with degrees from University of Hawaii at Hilo (B.A.), University of Hawaii at Manoa (M.Ed.) and Concordia University Saint Paul in Minnesota (M.A.).
