Carlina Acupan, 76, of Keaau died Oct. 13 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Isabella, Philippines, she worked at Green Point Nursery, Hawaiian Greenhouse and Island Princess Macadamia Nut. Santos “Sonny” Masulit, 87, of Hilo died Oct. 23 at home. Born in Santa, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a mill supervisor for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and worked a the Fairmont Orchid hotel. Born in Hilo, he was machinist for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., International Longshore and Warehouse Union business agent, Credit Union League director and president of the Big Island Chapter, and member of the Puna Covenant Church in Keaau. Thomas “Nobu” Takeuchi, 98, of Laupahoehoe died Oct. 26 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Laupahoehoe, he retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Co., was a private sugar planter and taro farmer.
