Hawaii Energy, the state’s energy conservation program, in partnership with Recycle Hawaii has announced an appliance trade-up program for old refrigerators and freezers for residents in Ka‘u.
Hawaii Energy, the state’s energy conservation program, in partnership with Recycle Hawaii has announced an appliance trade-up program for old refrigerators and freezers for residents in Ka‘u.
Hawaii Island residents located in Ka‘u can trade in their old, working refrigerator or freezer and receive a new energy-efficient Energy Star model for $250.
The deadline to submit an application is Jan. 31.
“Through our Appliance Trade-Up program, Hawaii Energy makes it convenient for Hawaii residents to recycle their old, energy-consuming refrigerators and freezers while also helping them save on their energy bill with new energy-efficient models,” Caroline Carl, executive director of Hawaii Energy, said in a press release.
“We’re pleased to partner with Recycle Hawaii to bring this program to the residents of Ka‘u and make it easier for participants to properly recycle their appliances,” she added.
Applications are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The program is open to Hawaiian Electric customers on Hawaii Island in the following zip codes: 96737, 96772,and 96777.
To qualify, applicants must have a working appliance greater than 14 cubic feet. Delivery of the new model and recycling of the old unit are available at no cost, and dates and times will be determined based on the number of applications received.
