In a thrilling conclusion to the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) boys soccer season, Rayden Handy of Kea‘au High School has been awarded the prestigious title of Division I Player of the Year. This honor highlights his exceptional skills and impact on the field throughout the season.
Handy, a junior midfielder, has been a dynamic presence for the Cougars, leading the team to an impressive season filled with memorable moments. He set a prime example of a student-athlete at Kea‘au High School with his outstanding grades, involvement in advanced-placement classes and playing on the Kea‘au boys basketball team.
Beyond his individual accolades, Handy’s recognition also highlights the many achievements the Cougars made this year as a team. In this hard-fought season, the Cougars played in their first-ever BIIF championship and Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) match. Though the Cougars fell short in the end, this season marked a historic milestone for Kea‘au boys soccer.
Head coach of the Cougars, Richard Handy, praised his team’s dedication and hard work.
“The team really pulled together this year and made other schools aware that Kea‘au is someone to beat,” he said. “Rayden is not just an incredible player; he’s a leader on and off the field. His commitment to the game and his teammates is what sets him apart.”
