An early morning structure fire Thursday destroyed a vacant, single-story home in Puna’s Fern Acres subdivision.

According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, 11 firefighters and one volunteer firefighter answered the 2:02 a.m. alarm, with the first of six units arriving on scene 12 minutes later.

Arriving firefighters found the structure fully involved and collapsed, as well as three passenger vehicles on fire, with the fire spreading to brush.

No residents were noted at the scene.

The fire was reported under control at 2:25 a.m. and extinguished at 2:56 a.m.

Damage was estimated at $27,000, and the cause of the fire is listed as undetermined.
