KEALAKEKUA — For the second straight week, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) held its track and field meet at Konawaena High School’s Julian R. Yates Field. It was the fourth meet of the 2025 season.

Several island athletes reached personal bests in Kealakekua, including Hawaii Preparatory Academy field star Elaina Head. Head. The senior earned personal records in the girls high jump (5-05.00) and triple jump (35-08.00). She also placed second in long jump and discus throw.

Konawaena sophomore star Jazmin Fillmore also had herself a great week, getting personal-best wins in the girls 300-meter hurdles (44.71s) and long jump (17-05.50). She also was part of the Wildcats’ speedster relay team of Kaella Masters, Dasha Kala and Violet Schaut that notched a season best in the 4×100-meter race, winning with a time of 48.77s.

Schaut also had another dominant week on the track individually. On top of winning her relay race, she once again placed first in the girls 100-meter sprint (11.83s) while also securing a season-best time in her win in the 400-meter dash (57.10s). Schaut has won nine individual races in her junior season, continuing to build her resume as one of the fastest runners in the Hawaiian Islands.

Kealakehe junior Jackson Rigg had a strong week, notching personal records in his wins in the boys 100-meter (11.18s) and 200-meter sprint (22.73s). He was also a part of the winning relay team of Kekaimalu Macabio, Carl Trinidad and Kainalu Macabio in the 4×100-meter race, finishing in 43.45s.

The Waverider boys relay teams stayed sharp for the rest of the meet, as the 4×100 squad of Trinidad, Noah Rosenbloom, Kekaimalu Macabio and Kainalu Macabio secured a season-best time (3:30.99) in their win. Kealakehe’s 4×800 team of Aizen Saladino, Jacob Cai, Archer Ankrum and Rosenbloom also got a season-best time in their win (9:34.35).

Kamehameha-Hawaii freshman star Kahalia Huddleston reached a personal record in the girls 200-meter run, winning the race with a time of 26.24s.

Hilo senior Kekaihulali Halpern earned a personal record in the girls 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4:46.21. She also earned a personal best in the 400-meter run, placing second in 1:00.00.

Halpern wasn’t the only BIIF runner dominating the long distance races. KSH sophomore Brayden Tamura earned a personal record in the boys 3,000-meter run, racing in 10:22.33.

In the boys 400-meter dash, Laupahoehoe junior Tazein Sykes earned a season best in his win, finishing in 51.13s. The second through fifth-place finishers — Kona junior Paxton Sokham (51.21s), KSH junior Hawaii Iokepa (51.35s), Kona junior Aden Sokham (51.72s) and KSH sophomore Cole Walker (52.26s) — all recorded personal-best times.

KSH sophomore Judah Kanoa, who has been a hurdles superstar in the BIIF this season, won the boys 110-meter hurdles in 15.27s and the boys 300-meter hurdles in 41.48s. Kanoa has won an astounding eight hurdles races this season.

Kanoa’s teammate, junior Alyssa Hudman, beat her personal record set on March 22 in the girls 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.52s. She also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 50.22s.

Waiakea junior Shane Tominaga had another dominant stint on the track, winning the boys 800-meter run with a personal record of 2:03.62 and clinching the 1,500-meter race in 4:21.50.

HPA junior Kirra Geesey won three track events — a personal record in the girls 800-meter run (2:24.85), a season-best time with teammates Naomi DeMille, Kate Schwarting and Wynter Radey-Morgan in the 4×800-meter relays (10:02.80) and in the 4×400-meter relay with her squad of Delphine Fanelsa, Tea Kasumovich and Schwarting (4:23.10).

Kona senior Elias Malapit continued his dominant season in the boys shot put, winning first overall with a maximum throw of 14.10 meters (46-03.00). Malapit also finished second in discus (131-11).

In the girls shot put, Kohala sophomore Mari Ontiveros reached a personal-best throw of 10.11 meters (33-02.00) in her first-place finish. The next three best finishers — Hilo freshman Wai Krismunando (33-01.25), St. Joseph freshman Analei Wiedemeier (32-09.00) and Kona freshman Dasha Kala (30-07.50) — additionally had personal-best throws.

In the boys discus, Hilo junior Kekoa Nakooka had a maximum launch of 40.44 meters (132-08) — earning a personal record in his first-place win.

KSH sophomore Isaiah Kanae placed first in both the boys high jump (5-11.00) and triple jump (40-04.00).

To round out Saturday, Kealakehe freshman Alaska Delangen reached a personal best in the girls pole vault, leaping 2.51 meters (8-03.00).
