The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) boys volleyball season continued Tuesday night with matches on the east side of the island.
KSH 3, Ka‘u 1
Kamehameha-Hawaii boys volleyball got back in the win column after falling to Waiakea earlier in the week, beating Ka‘u in four sets in Kea‘au.
The Trojans made a statement in the opening set, winning 25-22. Out of the timeout, the Warriors adjusted and made a run for the rest of the night — winning the final three frames 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.
Of KSH’s 55 team kills, Jaydan Borling-Lewi, Kahaiolelo Helm and Kameron Pua combined for 43 of them. Teammate Jayson Nakata finished with a match-high 32 assists on 69 attempts (.464). Warrior Lincoln Jardine also had 20 digs. As a team, KSH tallied three blocks.
Adahdiyah Ellis-Reyes was the only Trojan in double figures in kills with 15. His teammate, Kilinahe Navarro, dished out a team-high 26 assists on 68 attempts (.382). Daeten Castillo led Ka‘u in digs with 12. The Trojans collected nine blocks in total.
Moving to 6-2 on the season, the Warriors’ next test will be against the Cougars at 5 p.m. tonight at Kea‘au High School.
Ka‘u is now 5-4, and will look to redeem themselves against Connections on Saturday in Pahala’s Ka‘u District Gymnasium.
Pahoa 3, Kea‘au 1
Pahoa boys volleyball had a successful road trip, beating the hosting Cougars in four sets in Kea‘au.
The Daggers won by set scores of 25-14, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-15. They elevated themselves to a .500 win percentage at 4-4.
The Cougars lost their third straight match, remaining in the cellar of BIIF DI at 1-8 overall.
Pahoa returns home to face the Christian Liberty Academy Canefire on Friday, while Kea‘au returns to action against KSH tonight on the road.
