A search continues today for a Kona fisherman who has been missing since Wednesday morning.
Personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Hawaii Fire Department are looking for 42-year-old Earl Kekuanaoa Hind, who reportedly launched his vessel from the South Point area on Monday.
Hind is described as Hawaiian, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
The vessel, named Makalapua Onalani, is described as a 21-foot Force with a 2-foot extension, white hull, light blue cabin, and powered by twin outboard motors.
Hind and his vessel were last observed Wednesday at around noon, offshore near the Milolii area heading in a northerly direction, police said.
Hind’s truck and boat trailer were located parked near the South Point boat ramp area.
Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Corinne Zilnicki told the Tribune-Herald it is believed Hind didn’t have a radio in his boat. She said the search area is up to 80 miles offshore off the southwest corner of the island between South Point and Milolii.
Police ask anyone with information about Hind’s whereabouts to please contact the police department’s nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311 and/or Detective Donovan Kohara (808) 960-3118 or via email at Donovan.Kohara@hawaiicounty.gov.
If Hind or his vessel is located at sea, the Coast Guard is requesting that anyone with information contact Raphael Sandowitz at the USCG Command Center, (808) 842-2600.
