Kona cyclist, 71, dies following crash last week
A 71-year-old male cyclist from Kailua-Kona has died following a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday, April 9, on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway (Highway 19) near the 94.5-mile marker in North Kona.
The man has been identified as Franz Albert-Ludwig Weber.

Responding to the reported crash at 9:08 a.m. on April 9, police determined that Weber was operating a black Trek cycle traveling south when it rear-ended a green 2015 Motor Coach Industries tour bus that was stopped on the highway shoulder on the makai side of the road.
Weber was transported to the Kona Community Hospital for initial treatment and later transported to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. He was pronounced dead at 9:34 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, at The Queen’s.
