The Big Island Press Club’s annual scholarship dinner will be held 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Hilo’s Restaurant Kenichi, where the club will honor its 2025 scholarship recipients.

Chelsea Davis, television news reporter for Hawaii News Now, is the guest speaker.

The press club annually awards scholarships at this dinner to students pursuing a higher education in journalism or a related field. This year’s winners of $5,000 in scholarships will be announced and feted at the dinner.

“Awarding scholarships to deserving students is one of the highlights of our organization’s work,” said John Burnett, BIPC past president. “We truly appreciate our generous donors, and we love to meet our future generation of journalists.”

Maui native Davis has a broadcast journalism degree from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. With experience reporting on the continent and here in Hawaii, she’s covered numerous issues and events, including the Aug. 8, 2023, Maui wildfire and its aftermath.

Davis said she has her dream job and is grateful to serve her local community.

Dinner will be a local-style buffet featuring two entrees, two vegetables, a side dish and nonalcoholic beverage. Attendees can opt to BYOB.
