Two candidates for the state Senate were fined $25 for a late or missing financial interest disclosure statement.
The state Ethics Commission released the names of eight Senate candidates and 14 House candidates who failed to file a financial disclosure statement by the deadline of July 23.
State Sen. Gil Kahele, D-Puna, Ka‘u, Hilo, and Senate candidate Wendell Ka‘ehu‘ae‘a, also a Democrat, were the only candidates from Big Island races to miss the list. A total of 163 other candidates have made the deadline, the commission said.
The financial disclosure form requires candidates for the state Legislature to list sources of income, affiliated businesses, creditors, memberships in other organizations and properties owned beyond a candidate’s primary residence.
