Antone “Tony” Basque, 74, of Hilo died Sept. 30 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired sergeant with the Hawaii Police Department, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation from 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 25) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Flowers welcome. Survived by son, Dean Basque of Honolulu; daughters, Tania (Todd) Taniguchi of Honolulu and Marla (Tommy Andujar) Basque of Utah; brother, John Basque of Kona; sisters, Isabella “Dooley” (Ben) Di Fatta of Los Osos, Calif., Anita (Clement) Andrade of Volcano, Marianna (Manuel) Soares and Frances Medeiros of Hilo, Rita Lovato of West Hills, Calif.; sister-in-law, Grace Basque of Kona; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
