During the week of Nov. 6-12, Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. One was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 10; South Hilo, eight; Puna, three; and South Kohala, one.
So far this year, there have been 1,001 DUI arrests compared with 950 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.4 percent.
There have been 1,165 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,232 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent.
To date, there have been 29 official fatalities compared with 28 at the same time last year. There also have been four vehicle-related deaths police don’t count toward the official total because two occurred on private property and two were in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
