The Hawaii Island United Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association recently presented scholarships of $750 apiece to Kathy Oyadomari of Puna Hongwanji and Alyssa Fujii of Kamuela Hongwanjj. The winners were honored at their respective churches and high school awards assemblies.
Oyadomari, an honor graduate of Hilo High School, is the daughter of Alvin and Sharman Oyadomari. She will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa and will major in business administration. She has also served as an active leader and participant in student government activities, clubs and organizations at Hilo High School.
Fujii, a recent graduate of Honokaa High School, is the daughter of Allie Fujii and Alice Fujii of Waimea. She will enroll at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and will pursue a career in forestry. Fujii has been an outstanding Dharma School participant for the last 15 years. She has been an active member of several clubs including the Future Farmers of America, which is related to her chosen area of college studies. Fujii is also actively involved in her community as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

She has emceed at church services regularly, served as an assistant teacher for four years, completed Dharma studies and attended YESS Conferences.
Fujii has excelled academically at her high school and has held leadership positions in student government, class officer positions, and with other school related groups. “The Hawaii Island United Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association is proud to honor Kathy Oyadomari and Alyssa Fujii with its scholarships,” said a spokeswoman for the group.
