PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera is visiting Hawaii to meet U.S. military commanders.
Onodera met with U.S. Pacific Fleet commander Adm. Cecil Haney on Tuesday and discussed the relationships of the U.S. and Japanese navies.
Haney also took Onodera on a boat tour of Pearl Harbor. They stopped at the USS Arizona Memorial to lay a wreath and pay their respects to those killed during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Onodera is scheduled to meet the head of the U.S. Pacific Command, Adm. Samuel Locklear, on Wednesday. They’re expected to discuss the U.S. and Japanese military partnership and strengthening the U.S-Japan bilateral military alliance.
