Barbara “Bobbie” “Nana” Jane Leinani Parish, 81, of Honauanu died July 4 at her residence. Born in Honaunau, she was the first bartendress at the former Kona Inn Hotel, attended Kamehameha School, was a model for Liberty House store and an avid sportswoman and was also a member of the Lea Lea Women’s Golf club, WIBC Bowling League, the former Kona Inn Tennis and Keauhou Beach Tennis clubs. Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 27 at Calvary Community Church, 76-4295 Leilani St. in Kailua-Kona, for a 10 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Jeff (Georgia) Parish and Dane (Nicki) Enos, both of Kailua-Kona, Alii (Anna) Parish of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Kaipo (Norene) Parish of Holualoa; daughters, Sheri (Michael) Hamilton and Tatum Parish, both of Kailua-Kona, and Tori Denis of Holualoa and; sister, Jennifer (O.J.) Friels of Kailua-Kona; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
Charles Yushin Narimatsu, 93, of Hilo died July 10 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was retired from H.T. & T. as a crane operator and was a member of Hilo Kobukan Kendo Club, Hawaii Kendo Federation, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Japanese Community Association and Komohana Kumiai. Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. Thursday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers. Survived by wife, Olive Narimatsu of Hilo; son, Layne (Sara) Narimatsu of Hilo; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
Paradise “Star” Newland, 65, of Keaau died Saturday in Honolulu. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she was a dolphin researcher, gentle birthing advocate and language sculpting proponent and was also the founder of Bee Buddies. Celebration of life, potluck and blessing from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Carlsmith Beach Park in Hilo. At 5 p.m., friends will speak of their memories of her.
