Summer Splash 2013 was a big hit for a Big Island nonprofit, the Sunday’s Child Foundation, and its youth participants. Children ages 7 to 16 were hosted by the support of many of Hawaii’s cause-conscious businesses, said Lauren Rainier, executive director and founder of Sunday’s Child Foundation.
Throughout the week of July 4, the children enjoyed the pool and thrilling water slide activities at both the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa and the Waikoloa Hilton. After a brief respite from the sun at the 4D Ride attraction at the Mauna Lani Shops, the kids were ready for more and with paddles in hand, pounded the waters with the brave kupuna of the Kawaihae Canoe Club.
“There were so many magical moments during our adventures together this past week,” Rainier said. “We all shared a lot of great fun and will have life-long memories from this experience.
“Two of our special days were truly healing,” she said. The first day of the summer camp’s fun began with water-play in both the ocean and the pool at the Hokukano Bayhouse in Keauhou Bay. Not only was there water-play, but therapeutic healing to help the children relax.
The children visited the Kohala Youth Ranch near Pololu Valley. They enjoyed watching the horses play, and even had their hand at grooming.
