Police are seeking the public’s help to identify anyone with information on the cause of three suspicious fires that occurred this morning.
Police are seeking the public’s help to identify anyone with information on the cause of three suspicious fires that occurred this morning.
The fires were located on Waikoloa Road and Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 190) in West Hawaii.
At about 8:24 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire on Route 190 near the 12-mile marker. Fire personnel were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which burned an approximately 1,000-sq. ft. area of vegetation and dry brush.
At about 8:36 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire on the south side of Waikoloa Road near the 10-mile marker. Fire personnel extinguished the fire, which burned about 50 sq. ft. of vegetation and dry brush.
Then, at about 9:16 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire on the south side of Waikoloa Road near Uluwehi Street. Fire personnel extinguished the fires, which burned about 1000 sq. ft. of vegetation and dry brush.
No structures have been damaged nor were any injuries reported as a result of any of the fires. The total extent of the burned property has yet to be determined.
Police detectives and fire inspectors have deemed the fire as suspicious in origin and are investigating.

The department also encourages community members to report any suspicious activity, especially in the area of Waikoloa Road and Route 190, to the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
I can tell you exactly what these brush fire are from…lowlife islanders who throw out their cigarette butts. I don’t know how many times I’ve been driving and see people throw out their lit butts. See it almost daily. Sadly, most of the time it’s locals. in fact I’ve never seen a butt throw out of a rental Jeep, or mustang. Go to any fishing spot on this island and look at all the trash and butts on the ground, it’s sickening.
