A low pressure system approaching the islands from the northwest was expected to bring the threat of slow-moving bands of showers, with embedded heavy rain, according to the NWS forecast.
Maui County already was experiencing heavy showers Wednesday afternoon. The band of precipitation was expected to move east slowly and bring heavy rain to the Big Island by today.
A flash flood watch means conditions might develop that lead to flash flooding. The NWS says residents should monitor forecasts and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.
