Masterful pitching performances at the expense of Honokaa have been the theme so far this week in BIIF Division II softball.
Displaying pinpoint control, Kohala’s Mikayla Kekoa took her turn subduing the Dragons on Wednesday, striking out 10 in a four-hit shutout in the Cowgirls’ 4-0 victory in Kapaau.
Kekoa didn’t walk a batter and fired 64 of 77 pitches for strikes, according to statistics kept by Honokaa.
Kohala (7-4) made the most of its five hits. Danyka Cazimero slammed a home run in the second inning and Cheylin Imai hit a two-run single in the sixth off of Alexis Martinez, who pitched six innings for Honokaa (7-3).
On Monday, Konawaena’s Shaylynn Grace pitched a three-hit shut out at Honokaa,
Martinez struck out five and walked five Wednesday and was charged with two earned runs.
Destynee-Skye Carvalho and Xyan Ancheta each collected two hits for the Dragons.
A pair of walks and an error led to a Kohala run in the first.
Kalia Tabiolo Amaral and Cazimero singled in the sixth and scored on Imai’s hit to left.
