Cracks have been reported on Highway 11 near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park following a series of earthquakes at Kilauea’s summit.
Jessica Ferracane, park spokeswoman, said cracks were also seen in areas of the park.
About two dozen earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater have occurred at the summit in the past day.
The largest was a magnitude-4.4 temblor at 8:30 a.m. at depth of 0.3 miles.
“We had severe violent shaking at my office,” Ferracane said.
The park has jurisdiction over a 10-mile section of the highway. She said the road will remain open, though the speed limit may be reduced.
The park remains closed due to the risk of steam-driven explosions inside Halema‘uma‘u Crater.
