Lava Tree State Monument in Puna reopened today after being closed for more than seven months due to the Kilauea eruption.
The state park was damaged from earthquakes associated with the eruption but the facilities in close proximity to the lava flows were otherwise spared.
Repairs were made to a damaged walkway trail, public restroom and storage building doors, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The park is located off Highway 132 near Pohoiki Road.
Lava also reached near MacKenzie State Recreation, located along the coast, which reopened Sept. 8.
Hawaii County is reopening Isaac Hale Beach Park today, though the state-owned boat ramp there remains blocked by a new black sand beach. That park was isolated by lava flows.
DLNR says its Boating and Ocean Recreation Division is still assessing whether the sand can be dredged or whether the ramp needs to be relocated.
