On Feb. 13, police responded to a business on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo after receiving a report of a woman attempting to cash a stolen check.
The 25-year-old Hilo woman was taken into custody.
Officers arrested Tre Avilla-Alconcel a short time later after he was identified as an accomplice.
Police say detectives recovered several stolen credit cards during a search of Avilla-Alconcel’s vehicle.
On Friday, Avilla-Alconcel was charged with second-degree forgery, third-degree identity theft, attempted third-degree theft, two counts each of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and third-degree forgery, 25 counts of credit card theft and 30 counts of unauthorized possession of confidential information.
His bail was set at $121,000 and his initial court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday.
The woman was questioned and released pending further investigation.
