Police have charged a 19-year-old Naalehu woman for a pair of stabbings Friday afternoon at Whittington Beach Park in Ka‘u.
Kaleianuenue Borero-Kaluna was charged Sunday with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for the stabbing death of a 35-year-old woman and the non-fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old man.
Her bail is set at $200,000.
Robert Hayes, a 69-year-old Naalehu man who was also arrested Friday on suspicion of murder, has been released pending further investigation.
The woman was dead at the scene. The male victim, who was taken to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition with multiple stab wounds, remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Borero-Kaluna is scheduled to appear in Kona District Court today.
The attempted first-degree murder charge was lodged because Borero-Kaluna allegedly attempted to kill more than one person. A conviction on that charge carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. The other charges, upon conviction carry a mandatory life sentence with the possibility of parole.
