Many of Hilo’s business owners and community leaders are set to be “convicted” of having a big heart! More than 100 community leaders have all agreed to be “arrested” and go “behind bars” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Hawaii’s Hilo Lock Up on Thursday at the Palace Theater.
The voluntary jailbirds have agreed to raise their “bail” of $1,600 by encouraging colleagues, business contacts, family and friends, to make contributions to MDA that will directly benefit families in the state of Hawaii living with progressive muscular diseases.
On the day of the event, jail birds will be “arrested” at their place of work, transported in a “paddy wagon” and put behind bars for good at the Palace Theater. While in “jail”, they’ll enjoy a gourmet version of “bread and water” by Café Pesto! In addition, they will enjoy networking with other business leaders and meeting the individuals and families that benefit from MDA Hawaii services.
Statewide MDA Hawaii provides 500 families with services throughout the calendar year. The money that is raised in Hawaii goes towards local services – which include: clinics on Oahu, Big Island, Kauai and Maui, support groups on Oahu, Big Island and Kauai, summer camp on North Shore of Oahu for children with muscular dystrophy, durable medical equipment vouchers and equipment loan closet for people affected by muscular dystrophy who are registered with MDA.
