The appointments of Clayton Hee, Cheryl Inouye and Max Otani are effective immediately on an interim basis, subject to state senate confirmation. Their terms will expire June 30, 2023.
Otani, who was born and raised in Hilo, graduated from Hilo High School and the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He also has a master’s in social work from UH-Manoa. Otani worked at the Judiciary as a family court officer and circuit court probation officer. He was later employed at the Hawaii Paroling Authority, where he served for more than two decades in various positions, ranging from parole officer to division administrator. Otani was also the Intake Service Center Division administrator and deputy director for corrections with the state Department of Public Safety.
He retied from the department in 2016.
Hee is a former state legislator, having served in the House and Senate. He also served a dozen years as a member of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and was chairman for six years.
Hee was also an instructor of Hawaiian history and culture for the University of Hawaii and Hawaii public school system.
Inouye, a Kauai native, is retired from the state Judiciary on Oahu, serving as a probation officer and supervisor.
