A 53-year-old Hilo man was arrested this morning for allegedly claiming to be infected with the COVID-19 virus and threatening to infect police officers.
A 53-year-old Hilo man was arrested this morning for allegedly claiming to be infected with the COVID-19 virus and threatening to infect police officers.
Gregory Storm was arrested at 9:45 a.m. by South Hilo patrol officers in the parking lot of the South Hilo police station in connection with an earlier case wherein a driver resisted a police order to stop.
While being taken into custody, Storm reportedly told the arresting officers that he had COVID-19 and coughed intentionally in their face.
However, Storm was subsequently taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment for minor injuries, where it was determined that he had no symptoms of the virus and was likely not telling the truth.
Storm is currently being held at the East Hawaii Detention Facility pending a $3,025 bail. He is charged with resisting an order to stop a vehicle, driving without a valid license, second-degree reckless endangering, prohibiting acts during a state of emergency, driving without vehicle insurance and two counts of terroristic threatening.
