More than 40,000 people in the United States have died to due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There were 41,313 deaths in the U.S. as of 10:20 a.m. HST, or about 24% of the world’s virus fatalities.
Worldwide, 168,000 have died from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, and about 2.4 million people have tested positive. There have been 776,513 confirmed cases in the U.S.
On March 1, there were 98 confirmed cases in the U.S.
On March 15, there were about 4,600 cases.
By April 1, the number rose to more than 243,000 as testing efforts increased nationally. On April 15, there were 636,000 cases.
As of this morning, the number of people who have tested positive in Hawaii County is 63.
Thirty-three of those have recovered, and the remaining 30 are quarantined at home and are being monitored by the state Department of Health.
The McDonald’s cluster in Kailua-Kona accounts counts for 32 cases; 18 are employees, and 14 are household members.
Statewide, there were 580 cases as of Sunday, and more than 23,000 people have been tested.
More than 643,000 people worldwide have recovered from the virus, including just over 71,000 in the U.S.
