The Hilo Elks Lodge encourages isle students to participate in upcoming Drug Awareness and Patriotic Americanism Contests sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the U.S.A.
The organization sponsors the contests in order to inspire students’ creativity and leadership amongst their peers.
“The Drug Awareness contests will allow students the opportunity to take a stand against substance abuse. When they compete in the Americanism essay contest; students may develop a true appreciation for what it means to be a United States citizen,” said Lisa Fleury, first vice president, who is coordinating the Hilo Lodge No. 759 Americanism and Drug Awareness contests. She can be reached via email at lfhiloelks@gmail.com.
“The students who produce the best posters and essays will be awarded prizes,” said Fleury. The Hilo Elks members ask educators, parents and guardians to encourage students to participate.
