A Captain Cook man is in police custody on suspicion of murder following a shooting incident Tuesday evening that left a 45-year-old man dead.
A Captain Cook man is in police custody on suspicion of murder following a shooting incident Tuesday evening that left a 45-year-old man dead.
At 9:09 p.m. Tuesday, Kona patrol officers responded to a reported shooting in the 83-5000 block of Middle Keei Road in Captain Cook, according to police.
Upon arrival, officers located a man with an injury consistent with a gunshot, police said. The victim was later pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.
Police said his name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police arrested 66-year-old James Bonham of Captain Cook at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Hawaii Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Capt. Thomas Shopay said a firearm was recovered from the scene, and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
