In the light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, Gov. David Ige today said he is proposing that Hawaii’s four counties reinstate measures — initially implemented to curb the spread of the virus — that have been relaxed in recent weeks.
In the light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, Gov. David Ige today said he is proposing that Hawaii’s four counties reinstate measures — initially implemented to curb the spread of the virus — that have been relaxed in recent weeks.
That includes limiting social gatherings to 10 or fewer people, reclosing bars, and limiting social gatherings on beaches and within parks, Ige said during a news conference this afternoon in Honolulu.
The news conference comes as the state reported a record-breaking 109 cases of COVID-19 today — 98 cases on Oahu, nine on Maui, and two on Kauai.
“We continue to be able to manage this infection safely in our communities, but I am very much concerned with what we see happening,” Ige said. “It is a dropping of our vigilance in implementing the mandates that we had to distance and to wear masks. We are seeing infections occurring at personal gatherings of family and friends,and funeral services and other activities, which is alarming, and we must redouble efforts to take personal responsibility and fight against the spread of COVID-19.”
