Lefty Hiroshi Kawazoe, 95, of Hilo, a resident of Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, died Aug. 31 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahoa, he was a retired manager from the former Amfac Lihue Plantation and Puna Sugar Co., U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Taishoji Soto Mission, Kyu Pahoa Kumiai, Pahoa Nikkei Jin Kai and Pahoa, Keaau Senior Retirees and Club 36 golf clubs. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Kay Kawazoe of Hilo; sons, Brian (Ann Vasconcellos) Kawazoe of Hilo, Neal (Ruth) Kawazoe of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Miles (Naomi) Kawazoe of Hilo; sister, Satsuyo Taira of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Jane Kawazoe of Hilo and Jane (Vic) Kawasaki of Fremont, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Stanley (Charlotte) Iwata of Las Vegas, Raymond (Jean) Iwata of Pahoa and Ronald (Karen) Iwata of Hilo; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Gary Takao Kaukaokalani Okamura, 69, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Pepeekeo, died July 15 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator, mechanic for U.S. Department of Defense and Hawaiian Airlines and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Services at a later date. Survived by daughter, Carrie Pomai (Makana) Edens of Hilo; sisters, Joanne (Gregg) Chavez of Everett, Wash., Naomi (Clay) Barton of Mesa, Ariz., and Leilani (Steve) Cornelius of Loveland, Colo.; brother, Mark (Tina Alcain) Okamura of Captain Cook; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
