All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Contact the hosting library as soon as possible for more information or if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
Most of the programs are at Oahu locations. Here’s what’s on tap at Big Island libraries:
• Monday: “Elf,” 6 p.m. at Laupahoehoe Public &School Library (962-2229). Buddy was a baby who stowed away in Santa’s toy bag and ended up at the North Pole. The elves raise him as one of their own, but when he begins to notice his differences to the other elves he goes to New York City to find his birth father in this sweet holiday comedy. Will Ferrell stars in this PG-rated movie, which also features James Caan, Bob Newhart, Edward Asner, Mary Steenburgen, and Zooey Deschanel. The Friends of Laupahoehoe Library and Laupahoehoe Public Charter School are cosponsoring this Family Movie Night event. Free popcorn will be provided.
• Monday, Dec. 16: “Christmas Cards and Tags Crafting,” 6 p.m. at the Laupahoehoe Library. This is suitable for ages 10 and older. Registration is required; call the library.
Other public libraries also are scheduled to host holiday events, said state library spokesman Paul Mark.
