In what’s become a Hilo tradition, a sea of red, yellow, jinglebell and peppermint-colored poinsettias will dazzle shoppers at the annual fundraiser by Michie Kuwaye and members of the Hawaii Island Retired Teachers Association (HIRTA). The big plant sale will be 7 a.m.-5 p.m. daily beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday, as long as the supply lasts, and is located at 264 Nohea St.
“Prices have not changed for the 6-inch pots at $6 in red, jinglebell, yellow and peppermint; the 8-inch pots at $12, and the 2-gallon bush at $22 in both red and jinglebell,” said HIRTA President Carol D. Brown.
Red poinsettias in 4-inch pots will cost $4.
“Come early for the best selections,” said Brown.
For questions or orders, call Kuwaye at 989-1495. Proceeds from the poinsettia sale help the University of Hawaii College of Education students wear sashes at their graduation, of fabric each personally selects. The sashes are purchased and sewn by HIRTA members.
