Tana Hecht Basa, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 6 at the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Berlin, Germany, she was a retired registered nurse, former director of nursing at the Ka‘u Hospital, employed in the Medical Records Department at the Hilo Medical Center, member of Chabad of Hawaii and was a Holocaust survivor. A graveside service will take place at noon Friday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survived by husband, Juanito Basa of Hilo; daughters, Kari (Conley) Gali of St. George, Utah, Eliza (Randy) Talavera of Mililani; sister, Erika Mendelsohn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward; a captain of the U.H. Hilo Teachers Handicap Mixed League Bowling Team; and a captain of the Tropical Mix HGEA Mixed Bowling Team.
