The Hilo Viking Robotics (HVR) club at Hilo High School is now accepting applications for the annual Camp Eureka, a youth robotics camp, to be hosted through four days during the upcoming winter school intersession: Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 30-31, and Thursday and Friday, Jan. 2-3.
Come learn from HVR students who won several awards and championships in recent VEX robotics competitions on Oahu and the Big Island.
There will be two sessions offered each day.
The morning session, from 8 a.m.-noon, is geared for students ages 8-12. Focus of this session will be on NXT LEGO Mindstorm, where students will learn basic engineering and programming skills in addition to how robotics applies to the universe and solar system.
The afternoon session, from 1-4 p.m., is for students ages 8-14 and involves underwater robotics. Students will make a ROV (remote operated vehicle) which will be driven under water.
This camp is ideal for students who previously attended the LEGO Mindstorm camp and are interested in advanced robotics.
Cost is $175 per student per session. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 27. Space is limited.
