The regular season hasn’t begun yet, but it will be hard for Jalen Carvalho to top the show he put on in the championship game at St. Joseph’s boys basketball tournament.
The Hilo senior hit two buzzer-beaters, including a 23-foot tiebreaking 3-pointer at the end of overtime Saturday night, during a scintilatting 47-point performance as the Vikings edged Waiakea 67-64 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
The Warriors looked poised to grab their second preseason title in the past three weeks, but Carvalho made a putback at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime.

This was the teams’ first and last meeting during the busy preseason. The Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I rivals will meet again in the regular season Jan. 27 at Waiakea.
